Mongol Rally 2009 - The Jersey Boys

This morning, rich and me woke up bright and early to film a promotional video for the Mongol rally! We filmed the first half of it on a main street in Georgetown. We later found out that we may have not filmed it in the most appropriate area (long story...). However, we did meet amazing people through out the street. As you will soon see, the people we interviewed were ohh so kind and supportive. Even a few donated us money with out even being asked to do so in the first place. That shows the true kindness of strangers. Not going to lie, we did get "rejected" by some walkers, but hey- it’s all good! Then by noonish we made it back to George Town University, where we meet a lot of enthusiastic G-Town students! It was great to hear from all of them on their view of the rally. We meet some one who had a very deep insight on what the rally means. We cannot wait to share some people’s opinions once it’s edited by Rich (which should be in a few weeks). By the end of the day, rich and me were bushed! It was a hot 90's humid day in DC today- so we defiantly were feeling it being outside. Hope you guys enjoy the promotional video within the next couple of weeks- it will be used to help us fundraise a ton of money for our charity, FRANK water. Lastly, Thank you so much for those who were in our video today! With out you guys, the video would of not have been possible!

Almost famous- our first published article

The Jersey Boys have landed an article in The Elm, the college newspaper of which Alex attends. This will hopefully be the first of many publicity pieces leading up to the rally! The more people that know of our trip, the more money that we can fund raise for getting clean water to people who need it! If you have a friend, family member, a long lost step farther who knows some one in any media venues(tv,newspaper,radio,etc...), please speak of our trip! Stay tunned with us, who knows- you may just see us on your television soon.

Great news! We've decided on what charity we want our initial charity fee to support. After reviewing all of the Mongol Rally's official charities, our decision was easy.

The Jersey Boys have chosen as our official charity...

Alex and I have decided to throw our support behind FRANK water because it addresses a crucial problem facing the world today: availability of clean water. The Jersey Boys, known to you as Richard Rinaldi and Alex Insel, are about to embark on a great adventure spanning 10,000 miles through the bustling city streets of Western Europe to the great deserts of central Asia.

Yes, we’re crazy.

"The Mongol Rally" will start in London and end in the capital of Mongolia, Ulan Bataar with three-hundred other cars and their respective teams (if they make it). However, there are a few twists:

-First, the entire rally must be completed in an underpowered car with a one-liter engine. Think of your neighbor’s small two-door hatchback for an example. Now think of it driving through the deserts of Mongolia.

-Second, each team must raise upwards of two thousand dollars for charity. The money goes toward Mercy Corp Mongolia, which aids needy families in rural Mongolia. Not only are we committed to fundraising the required charity fee, we are also committed to raise the most money ever from a team during The Mongol Rally!

-And finally, there is no set route to get to Mongolia. In previous years, teams have gone up north to Scandinavia through Siberia to get to Mongolia or straight through Eastern Europe.

We find this, The Mongol Rally one of the last adventures left to us in the ever-globalizing 21st century. This by no means will be an easy task to plan or complete. We need to fundraise the required charitable fee and then some. Money will be needed to pay for visas, plane tickets, fuel, and the car. However, we have full confidence that as college students we can scrounge up the necessary funds to cover the costs of the entire rally.

Such a gargantuan task can only be accomplished through fund raising from our college campus communities, friends, family, local companies, and the kindness of random people. We are also fortunate enough to have the guidance from Scott Partenheimer, who completed the Mongol Rally in 2008. He will be an invaluable resource through out the planning process for us.

Alright, this is where you come in. We need donations to cover the charity fee and other related rally cost (airfare, gas, food, etc.). The power is yours to get us from the suburbs of New Jersey, to the double0decker buses of London, past the Berlin Wall, through the former Soviet Union, and eventually to the Gobi desert of Mongolia.

You can donate online through our Paypal Account or in person or by mail. If you don’t have any extra money around, you can still help! Write a company on our behalf, have a yard sale, get out that metal detector and find us some spare change on the beach.

Any donation is helpful. Only with your help can we get to Mongolia and raise a ton of money for Mongolia Mercy Corp.
